The library is my favorite place in the world. Probably because the whole world is in the library.
I find it shameful that today was the first time my children set foot into The Treasure Chest of Knowledge and Fun. Brazil? Doesn't do books.
I would often hold my stake camp meetings at the local university - no kids, computer access, convenient location and QUIET. But I have to admit that the first time I walked in there, I might have made a very loud HUAH! noise with my nose upon seeing their 'library.' I probably have more books in my own house. (Okay. In my storage container.)
So. Today we went to the library for the first time.
We got:
Imogene's Antlers
Caps for Sale
Danny the Dinosaur
Trashy Town (it's not about Las Vegas.)
(Don't hate me, Las Vegasians. It's a very nice town.)
Little Prince actually CLAPPED HIS HANDS at the end of Imogene's Antlers - that image of the peacock feathers left him burying his face in his hands and hugging me in glee. In Caps for Sale, Ouro Branco mimicked the monkeys, stomping his feet and crying tsck! tsck! tsck! with wild enthusiasm. Five times in a row.
Library: book repository, athenaeum, atheneum, bibliotheca, book collection, book room, information center, media center, reference center, study

Oh, I *LOVED* Imogene's Antlers as a kid. Such a great one. Have you seen the Scholastic movie collection? They have a great musical version of Trashy Town. So fun. It's on the same dvd as Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, which parenthetically is actually better on video and sung. So great. I love children's books. [sigh] :)
I LOVE Danny the Dinosaur!!
Books! Yay! We had most of our stuff in storage for a year between moves, and my books were the first thing I got out and put on shelves. I had a SIL visit the new house, and when she saw the books, she figured I must have all the boxes unloaded because the books were out.
Apparently, she doesn't read much, because she didn't get that my books are my life!
I love to read. I can't imagine not having a library. I love Danny the Dinosaur from when I was little. Have fun reading.
It makes me sad to say that I haven't heard of any of these!
I LOVED Imogene's Antlers when I was growing up. I'm glad you mentioned it, I'd almost forgotten and I need to get it for my kids.
sigh of relief.
I love the library. Too bad that I owe around 20 dollars in fines and therefore haven't been in 6 months. . .
I know. I am terrible person. For now the DI will just have to do.
welcome all the way back.
I worked at the local library my senior year. When I say "worked" I mean that I slowly cleaned books (slow because I was reading them and picking which ones to take home) and created a giant file for the middle school kids to use when they did their state reports. It was the best job I ever had. Its like working at Disneyland, or possibly the Celestial Kingdom without the need for censorship.
Oh, my baby is still a bit away from enjoying the books that we read to his older brother when he was much smaller but I can't wait. "I Love You, Stinky Face" and "Boom Chicka Boom Boom" and about a hundred others.
I love libraries, too.
Ah, so glad to hear you're settling in! The library is pure magic. Those books you listed are some of our very favorites. Especially Trashy Town. We'd get the kids (and just about the whole neighborhood) chiming in to that rhythm...Dump it in, smash it down. Drive around the trashy town. Love it! Welcome home!
Amazing. I don't know if I could live without books. As long as I had access to Amazon and a credit card, I think I'd be all right, but I'd need a storage room.
My Mother in law is a Librarian. You can bet your sweet bippy that if we didn't have a library card that my MIL would disown us forthwith.
Here's to hoping the Library turns out to be your kids new favorite place to find adventure!
I love the book Danny the Dinosaur!!!
Plus, I couldn't survive without a library. I'm on my way to the Stillwater one soon :D.
I love the children's book Trashy Town. We actualyl have the video too and my son LOVES it!
Yesterday was the best day ever because I stumbled upon a USED BOOK STORE! It is my happy place. Welcome back to the USA!
So happy for you!
They tore our library down last week but only to build it up triple the size (it was originally the size of my living&dining room combined).
Danny and the Dinosaur is a current favorite of my own children.
Glad you're home.
Danny the Dinosaur is the best! Welcome back to the States!

Are you sure Trashy Town isn't about Vegas? Because I kinda get confused when I drive to the LV temple and pass billboards covered by a major pair of honkers with a caption like "Bigger Really IS Better" and it is -- no lie -- advertising a real estate company.
Love the library, and PR didn't have one either. In fact I left a huge allotment of books to a local church that was just starting a library, and in my own meager way managed to double their stock. So sad.
Hey you, I just got all caught up on your move and such. Hope things with the house move along. And thanks for the book suggestions! I have plans to go get myself a new library card here soon.
Oooh! I love the library too. Good choices.
Oh, I love the library too. A couple weeks ago when I needed a break from reality I headed straight for my favorite library and emerged, an hour and a half later, a restored woman.
