Can I just say something?

Dear Stephenie Meyer,

Rio de Janeiro - and therefore Isle Esme - is COLD in August.

"Very thorough."

Warm regards,

That Girl

I am shocked that an author who writes books about vampires who sparkle, and creepy rapidly aging babies would get her facts wrong.

Shame on you, Stephanie Meyers. If that's even your real name.

Kristina P. said...

Or Stephanie Meyer. Whatever. I can't be bothered to check my facts either.

hee hee hee.

And she probably just picked the name Stephanie because it REEKS of genius.

Except Stephanie is too ordinary, obviously, since she spells hers Stephenie.

I think you're great. I really do.

Yeah! You tell her, TG! And...and...tell her Edward is ugly! And...um...you know, those other things...

Cuz I totally have your back even though I could only get through 30 pages of "Naptime"...er...I mean, "Twilight".

Ha ha ha! Thanks for clearing that up. I have so many other issues with the book that I can just add this one to my running list. :)

Kristina P. said...

Wait, she spells it with an "E?" Sigh. Of course she does.

NEVER would have thought of that! I love it when I find things like that in books!

I have nothing witty to add to this thread. I love my blog friends.

When I become a famous author I'm going to put my current picture in my book jacket.

Even if I'm fat.

That is all.

Have you noticed how OFTEN people get that wrong?! Maybe it's the whole we've-lived-south-of-the-equator thing, but every time I see that, it is painful.

I kind of hate "Twilight." At first I thought it was mediocre, though mildly entertaining, pop fiction. Then, some critic had his review put on the book jacket for the last book and it said, "Move over Harry Potter." Please! No one will even care in 10 years. People will still be talking about Harry Potter when I'm dead! So that was pretty much the nail in the "Twilight" coffin. Which is ironic, since they can't die.

Wow, when did this post become lets bash and be mean to Stephenie Meyer. I don't think there is any need to mention weight issues that someone may have, even if they are a well known author. I know for sure that if I ever wrote a book you better believe that I would put a skinny picture of me on the jacket. I am way heavier than I was when I got married so, I wouldn't want to put a picture of me now. Who cares if it is not exactly how I am looking at the moment, it is still me. Everyone has things that they struggle with. I still love you Stephenie even if you make a simple climate mistake!!!!!

Also, I am not ashamed to say that I love twilight!!!!!!! I thought it was a super fun read.

Heh. Excellent point.

Kristina P's comments made me laugh out loud.

Maybe one of my favorite posts ever!!!!

Ack! What's with the bash Stephenie in these comments?! (I have no problem w/ your orginial post, my dear...just some of the, er, passionate comments. -Sigh-) Sure, she isn't JK Rowling, but still...she wrote mega-best-selling books. She had to do something right or else millions and millions of people wouldn't LIKE them. Her story is orginal. Her writing is good. Not super-in-depth-psychological stuff, but good. She wrote to entertain, not to enlighten. But yes, I agree that she definitely should have checked her facts... :) Oh, and when I am an author, I will put my best picture on my book jacket too. I'm not stupid.

I love Twilight. I heart Stephenie Meyer. Don't judge. :)

P.S. Love ya girl. See you for VT-ing on Thurs!)

Oh that is TOO funny! I can't wait to tell all my Twilight loving friends!!! Thanks for fuel for the fire ;)

On the other hand, how cold does it get in Rio? I'm a Wisconsin girl. Cold is when they cancel school because it's 30 below zero, before the windchill. I went to Florida 8 years ago in February and the locals thought I was nuts for getting in the ocean.

But that's just flipping the coin. Your post was dang funny. And I'm calling my sister right now to dish about it. :)

Blessings, C~

That error is probably the best part.

Seriously, just one of the many facts she got wrong. Like bats. Hello? We all know vampires turn into bats during the day time. Duh, Stephanie.

Ah, but see, we CAN judge. Her as a person? No. But her books, which she published for all the world to read? Yep, those are totally judgeable.

And personally, I don't see why a book can't be entertaining AND enlightening (oh, and typo-free), and have characters who inspire rather than annoy. It's been done before.

The Stephmeister is creative, yes. Very much so. Good on her for the success she's enjoying.

But we're allowed to think the books are poorly written.

Katy said...

True true, Fig :) I meant more as a joke to not judge me because I'm part of the stereotypical "ohmygoshIloveEdwardCullen" crowd. :) But yes, i totally agree that her writing (NOT her personal character) is up for criticism and that yes, we as readers definitely can have our opinions. Heck, writing itself is an opinion. it's an art. So if Stephenie Meyer is going to share her "opinion" with the world, might as well expect opinions back! That's the beauty of the creative arts, eh? :)

Fig said...

Wellll ... we'll only judge you a little. Some of my best friends are in that crowd with you, and I try not to give them TOO much crap over it.

:-)

Wow. I'm kind of amazed at how 20 words can produce such a response. Nicely done, lady.

I was one of those reluctant to read Twilight...picked up and never put it down. I thought it was super "fun"! I had a few issues here and there, BUT it is just a book and some one's imagination. BUT BUT BUT, she has a team of people working for her that should have caught that error *IF* it is an error...like another person posted...how cold is it really? Some of us think 50 degrees is shorts weather. sigh. Just remember she has the millions and millions so she must be doing something right!

Just stumbled across your blog and think you are fantastic. Fantastic!

Good point about Rio de Janeiro in August. Ahem.

Hey, in defense of myself, just a little, I'm TOTALLY not trying to bash Stephenie about her weight. I can see how it sounded like that.

I saw her on Ellen, and in her cameo of the movie.

When I saw the picture in the post I couldn't figure out who the picture was of. I mean, duh, of course, but for a second I was trying to figure out if it was supposed to be one of her characters, or...???

My gut reaction was that I just didn't recognize her so a current picture might be nice.

But I will take my lashings as having posted the most insensitive comment.

Apologies.

Hey, everybody makes mistakes, right? Of course, hers seemed to go unchecked and earned her millions of $$$, but oh well.

Ha ha. Too funny.
