Hello, little wormies in your nice open can

I'm getting the (normal) flu shot next week.

And so are my kids.

Discuss.

I'm up in the air on this too. I plan to have a discussion about it with my pediatrician, who I really like and trust.

I say go ahead and get it and we'll all watch to see if you post again before making our own decision. hee hee hee

I'll be getting a regular flu shot but I doubt I'll be getting the swine flu shot. This is will only be the second flu shot I've gotten. And I've never gotten the flu.

And I've never gotten any shots for my kids...of the flu sort. My youngest hasn't been vaccinated against Chicken pox. Sometimes I think that, as a society, we want everything to be perfect. No sickness, no pain. That's not how it works. Yes we can do things to make things better but sometimes I think we go way over board.

I got the pneumonia shot. I don't remember why. Maybe it was on sale?

My husband gets a flu shot every year. My college kids both texted me last week to say they got them at school, so socialized medicine totally works for me. Not sure what I'm going to do with the other two. It all depends on how they behave this week.

Never have gotten one (even when pregnant, even though they told me too:-0) and neither have my kiddos, but I am a believer that you do what works for you:-) Good Luck in your decision.

WE NEED to GET TOGETHER!!!!!!!

My children and I have an appointment to get our flu shots on Saturday. We had a scare last winter that my youngest son had Swine Flu and in that instant, when they were sealing the biohazard bag over his culture to send to the State Lab, and I had a miserably feverish son in my arms, I wished that I had taken precautions.

Blessings, C~

I'm not into shots, specially of the vaccination variety. I've never had a flu shot and never had the flu. Now I'm pregnant and everyone thinks I need one, but I'm not doing it.

My husband works in a hospital pharmacy. He has seen patients with swine flu die. It is more serious than people think. We are definitely getting both flu shots if they will let us.

My kids got very sick with the regular flu that they give the shot for, and hospitalized a couple of years ago. Since then we always get the regular flu shot. We still get colds, but haven't gotten very sick like that again.

I heard the H1N1 shot wasn't going to be readily available, and that it's not part of the regular flu immunization this year. I could be wrong.....but I thought that's what I understood. I am pregnant, and I will be getting the flu shot next week. My kids will be getting it, too.

at my last OB appointment, the nurse said, "wanna flu shot?" and pulled out a needle.

Confused, I said, "I can do that while pregnant?"

"Oh, yes" she said in that "you're foolish if you don't do it while pregnant" way.

So I said, "sure, why not!"

No idea if it was for SWINE FLU or the Plague. All I know is I got stuck with a needle of unknown content, and am fine.

Incidentally, this seems to be how most of my appointments go.

My kids (ages 7 & 6) got flu shots for the first time this year. They're in daycare for the first time and I'm working full-time so it seemed like a good idea. I asked my pediatrician about the swine flu shot and she said she'd rather her kids get the swine flu than the shot. She has concerns about how quickly it was developed and the type of medicine it is. (I think she said oil based?) She said the last time they did this (in the late 70s) people had neurological problems from the vaccine. Didn't sound good to me, so I think we'll opt out of the swine flu vaccine.

I think that whatever people do, they should educate themselves from reputable sources.

Perhaps I have too much faith in the health system, but I can't imagine them advocating something that, in most cases, would cause more harm than good.

I always make sure my kids get flu shots. In fact, now that they have the mist its easy peasy.

I am ultra-paranoid about sick kids. Anything more severe than a cold sets me into some serious anxiety.

The Flu is NASTY. I'll do what I can to prevent it.

I didn't realize there was such a controversy about it. I'll do my research about the H1N1 vaccine.

Bria got the flu mist thing last year, because we had her well child check and they offered it. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't do it.

I'm one of those people who researches things to DEATH. The whole flu shot thing? I just can't make sense of it. I think I'll probably skip it just because I don't understand it. I'm really enlightened like that.

I've never had a flu shot before (for no good reason, really) but this year I'm getting both the regular one and the H1N1 shot. I'm doing it because I'm pregnant. If "they" are putting pregnant women at the top of the list of people who can get them, It seems like a good idea to take them up on that.

I don't know...the government likes to tell us something is a 'good idea' and rush it into production. My husband was going to start taking fen-phen back in the day, you know that miracle weight loss pill the government ok'd...lucky for us we couldn't afford it because a month later all heck hit the fan about that drug.
I don't like shots myself, my kids don't like shots. I let them get sick the old fashioned way and tell myself I am building their immune system. We can't afford the shot anyhow, so no shots for us.

What's up with people (PLURAL!) saying that they've NEVER had the flu?! Dude, I am so spitting on their graves. I'm evil like that. You know how I feel. We're ALL shot up. And when the swiney one comes out, we're doing it all over again.

I was going to discuss this on my blog in the near future. But you have different readers and I enjoy the opinions.

I've never got the flu shot for myself or my children. I am very much NOT a worrier. Sometimes I think my kids would be better off if I were more of a worrier! But this year.......I want to. I'm pregnant. Kids are already getting sniffles. Just seems like a good idea. Haven't decided about the swine flu one. And I'm going to have to find when a clinic is offering a free shot, or cheap, at least.

You are allowed to get your own inspiration for your own family, so I say, "go for it, lady!"

My husband, who is the embodiment of husband in perfection except when it comes to his immune system (he's got a LOUSY one--always sick), got the flu shot once years ago and it was his absolute WORST year for being sick (and THAT, my dear, is saying something!!). He swore off flu shots then and there and refuses to get them. The rest of us are uber healthy and won't bother!

I don't buy into the conspiracies about the swine flue vaccinations, however, our government is so wacko at this point, that I don't think we're incredibly far from things that bizarre!

I don't believe I've EVER been that political on a blog before--out of my comfort zone!! Something about looking at you pulling that blue thought out of your head brings new things out of me!)

We're getting the flu shot next week because my health care provider is coming into the office and giving them out free! I've never received the flu shot before (because I usually don't get the flu anyway and I'm way too cheap). But why not if it's free?

I will totally be getting one. You know since the OB will keep me in the room until I have my arm jabbed. If I am lucky it will be the same day I get my rear jabbed with the rhogam (sp?)shot.

As for the rest of the fam...hubby can get one for free at work, and I haven't decided about the 21 month old. She is probably the most likely to get something since she hangs out with people that eat their own boogers.
