UPDATE

That Girl has been on the magnesium stuff since Friday afternoon (she doesn't recommend it), and while it's slowed down labor, it hasn't stopped it completely. The "protein swipe thingie they do to determine if you'll go into labor soon" came back positive. They've given her steroid injections (in her bum, of all places) which should help the baby's still not-at-all-ready lungs. They're just waiting for the steroid to take effect before they'll stop the magnesium (at least another day), and then let nature take its course. Because there ain't no stoppin' nature.

So she'll be having a baby within a week (so sayeth the protein swipe thingie), and will be chillin' in the hospital until then - right next to the best neonatal center Phoenix has to offer. They say the average NICU stay for a 32 week baby is three weeks.

She would like to say thank you for all the prayers and love. It means more than words can say.

Oh, and also: Magnesium sucks.

You get a prayer right now and another one when I go to bed! And another one in the morning! All kidding aside (and that includes songs) I'm praying for the very best for you and your little one.

Just SO said...

Oh my. Prayers for all the best for you and your new little one.

Oh no, oh no, oh no. I'm so glad you're back in the states for this (okay, quite frankly, while my mom had half of us internationally and everything went wonderfully, there is some comfort to having American doctors and technology). We're praying for you!

Oh man. Well perhaps there will be a miracle and that little one will stay put anyway. Prayers.

Dear Becky's Mom and her man,

I am SO SORRY to hear she has to be on Magnesium. It is the nastiest thing ever. With my third I had Magnesium and thought as the nurse was starting it, Oh my goodness! She's poisoning me. Does anybody know what she's doing?! Help! Somebody check on her. I think I'm going to die! I had a lower dose with my fourth and when they wanted to increase it, I declined it and had to sign a form saying I declined treatment even though I was advised.

I am definitely praying for you all.

Becky is going to need lots of flowers and love when she has to leave the hospital without her baby. I know. I had to leave #2, 3, 4, and 6. Have plenty of tissues. There will be lots of tears- especially when she has to pump to bring in her milk supply instead of just nursing her baby.

My prayers are that this will not be the case. I pray that he will come when it's the right time for him and all will be healthy and well.

Love,
Nikki

Oh Becky...I went through some scary times with Claira but even so I can only imagine how worried you all must be. My heart feels all achey and I'm tearing up just remembering the scariness of that uncertain time. I hope you can find peace in the midst of the craziness. I felt blessed in that way during my experience and I hope so much for that for you too. Love you!

I have a nephew who was born at 31 weeks, a niece who was born at 30 weeks, and a nephew who was born at 27 weeks. All three are healthy and annoying. I am praying for you and know that, even if it is a rough beginning, it will all be great.

I'm sorry, that has to be so stressful. Mom & Baby (and the rest of the family) will be in our thoughts and prayers! How grateful I am we live in a time and place where miracles are worked everyday in hospitals! Good luck with everything!

I honestly just said a prayer for That Girl. I'm not usually very good at remembering to pray for people, but I suppose my own pregnant state has bought That Girl to my mind a bit more. So I'll be sending up more prayers, and wishing I could do more.

Love That Girl!!!

p.s. also glad she's next to such a great NICU and not in Brazil. and that she's got so many willing and able to help.

She is in my thoughts and prayers! Everything will be ok!

Sorry about all the yucky medicine, but grateful it's keeping you two safe! Keep on updating us! We'll keep you in our prayers and though we'd like baby to stay for a little longer, we're excited for arrival!

Oh, and by the way, I clearly didn't mean Baby J #4...unless you secretly made your hubs take your name. :) Good luck, the prayers are flowin!

So I take a week off of blogging for eye surgery and That Girl decides to go into early labor?! So rude.

The first thing I was thinking was, "Thanks goodness she's in the US now!" I don't know if Brazil has NICU's, but I'm kind of thinking they wouldn't be as good as what she has available now. What a blessing. (If you can call something like this a blessing.)

Also, tell her not to try not to worry too much (right, not worry, sure.) But I went through something similar, had 2 NICU babies, saw 31 weeks NICU triplets, and have followed the progress of my bro-in-law's 26 weeker NICU twins. NICU's are amazing and her baby will have the best people caring for him. Plus all of her blogging friends are praying for her, so this baby should be AMAZING. The magnesium will be worth it, I swear!

Simply positive energy coming your way!

**FYI - the word verification that just came up was "farks". I don't know what it is but it sounds nearly naughty. And it made me giggle...I hear giggling is good for you.**

Thank you, hacking friend, for the updates - and for the positive and humorous tone.

But I'm still nervous.

Prayers, yes. Prayers and prayers.

And love.

And cookie flavored magnesium.

This is my first time here, but I wanted to join in and say best of luck with your pregnancy! I can't imagine what you and your family are going through right now. Be strong. You have an amazing network of people praying for you!!

Longtime lurker, but wanted to offer my encouragement to you. I had a baby at 32 weeks, so I feel for what you are going through now and what you have ahead of you. It was a tough experience, but I now have a beautiful, healthy 6 year old who no one can believe was a preemie. Thank heavens for great NICUs and the faith and prayers of lots of good people. God bless you and your little one!

You're in so many prayers, Becky! Please just take it easy; I know how that magnesium sucks, but it'll all be worth it. TRY to think in the long-run, not in the moment.

Take care!
