It's only 9 o'clock? Really?

The NBC is teething. Four teeth. At once. Oh, and he has a cold.
Mr. Squishy hasn't slept in two days. Neither have we.
Sunshine is not sunny. He's sensitive, crabby, and prone to throwing any and all fragile and/or sentimental objects within reach.
My floor is a hazard to my children's health. No. Really.
I haven't even started sorting what I estimate to be about ten loads of laundry. There is no clean underwear in the house. Minor detail.
We have no milk. And we're down to two bananas. This is bad.
I'm hosting a party tomorrow, and I haven't a clue what I'm serving. Then there's the fact that my house looks like it threw up on itself.
(I'd post a picture, but I just ... don't think ... I can ....)

SO.

I am so totally going to break our "weekends only" movie rule, pop in Finding Nemo, and START.

Maybe.

You can do it!

Does your local grocery store deliver? Although I haven't used the service yet, I've heard it can save lives. Bananas and milk on the way. Oh and chocolate. Stat!

We just did four teeth at once a couple weeks ago. That was hell.

Good luck! Rules are made to be broken, and desperate times call for desperate measures, etc. etc. etc.

You just made me feel a little better about my day, thanks. Hope you get it figured out. And movies are great!

Seriously, something is in the AIR, 'cause half the mommies I talk to have been describing very similar scenarios in houses across the country!
I think my children are possessed. Or just overly tired. But probably possessed.

HEY! that's my house too! (minus the 4 teeth, but how does one growing in the tummy count?)

seriously, what is it!?

hang in there! stick the movie in, put your mom in charge of the boys, get a good 2 hour nap, then put your sister to work as entertainer when she gets home from school, and put on some funky music and get to work! (only if you really feel like it :)

Teeth. YUCK! Oliver is the worst teether on the planet. You have to plan about a week's worth of crying and holding for his teeth. SO sorry!
What kind of party is it? Ourbestbites.com has the BEST ideas for appetizers and party food.

Good luck!

LOVE IT! (sorry, maybe that's cruel) But it's just so darn comforting to know that other mom's have days like this! And the party tomorrow night with no idea what I'm serving is totally me!!--I work better under pressure! The party will be fab!

Aw hun...I want to BE there and help in some way, not leave a wordy little comment that probably isn't the right thing to say anyway. I'm a party hostess with the mostess though - need help putting a menu together?

I hope the day got better...that there's been sleep and peace and quiet mixed in with the usual chaos.

Love you so much. ((hugs))

Can I come help you? Because it will keep my mind off of my own laundry, lack of groceries and book club at my house tomorrow.

And girl, a movie on a weekday once every decade is totally okay. Emergencies happen. :)

And this is when you need me. Party? Cleaning someone else's house? That's my bag, baby. A little beachboys and that house will be rocking in no time.

We have rules because they give us structure, a plan. But when life is falling down around us, it's fine to shuffle the rules a little bit. Maybe even necessary. And what you are describing only happens to me about once a week. Like clockwork.

I have no compunction about plugging my children into a carefully-selected show (or three) or movie in order to preserve my sanity. I'm convinced that the studies about children and television consumption are tainted with some kind of lurking variable: the quality of the programming they're watching, the degree of adult contact and supervision while they're watching those shows, the degree of commitment and involvement of their parents in their lives in general . . . in other words, it's totally okay when reasonable.

(Laney Kate has 11 teeth now, and she got three molars at once, along with two eye teeth. That's five, baby. Five teeth at once. I may have actually considered giving her away. Maybe.)

Movies only on weekends? What are you trying to do, raise happy, well adjusted children? And then what? They'll come visit you at the laughing academy?

Our rule was always, "no more than 6 hours of movies per school day." No regrets.

oy! But, tomorrow will be a new day.

Baby is teething here, too. I miss sleeping. I wouldn't even try potty training my three-year old during a teething bout.
