In which I'm annoyed with my body

So last week when I was randomly looking at my blog (do you go back and read old posts of yours? No? mmKay ...) and I noticed that on my sidebar, in big bold black letters was

YOU HAVE NOT UPDATED YOUR WEIGHT FOR 80 DAYS.

*insert speechless face*

Yes, I know my weight has not changed in foreverz - thanks soooo much for the reminder.

I gained close to 60 pounds with the NBC. That's almost double what I gained with the other three. Not sure why - maybe the bed rest factor? Anywho, it's been a beast to lose it all.

Actually - I haven't lost it all. As TickerFactory so kindly reminded me. Loudly and embarrassingly.

So I've lost 48 pounds. That's good. That's great. That's wonderful. I should shut up and be happy, yes?

'Cept I still have 8 to go. And technically another 10 after that before I'm pre-Mr. Squishy. So that's basically 20, and that's basically depressing.

Thing is, I don't think I've ever been in such good cardiovascular shape. Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays I run four miles. Tuesdays and Thursdays I bike ten miles. I do the occasional Pilates ball and push-ups, too. I stretch. I eat right.

And yet the scale HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED FOR 80 DAYS.

Plus also I'm severely squishy. I fit in my jeans, but there are chunks.

(Me, after getting back from running, as taken by Little Prince.)

Pretty sure my metabolism has slowed to a crawl or something.

Does anyone have any magic cures? Which doesn't require me to bump up the exercise or further limit my (already limited) diet? A pill or some kind of magic chant would work just great ....

Ew. I agree. "The jeans fit, but there are chunks" basically describes my life. I almost signed up for Weight Watchers on Saturday, but I went to Kroger and bought Halloween Oreo's instead. WHAT IS MY PROBLEM!?!?!??! Grrrr....

P.S.Way to go!!!!! Your exercise routine ROCKS!

Well, I just magically lost my last 8-10 when my husband went on a diet (seriously. Very weird. I didn't change my diet or exercise at all but the weight came off over the course of a couple of weeks). So just put your man on a diet. You may have to wait until the NBC is nine months old like Spencer, though.

Oh, the battle! I wish it weren't so relentless.

Nope, no magic fixes -- although weight training helps me keep my svelte figure (okay, so actually it helps me keep my rotund figure from spreading)

Doesn't nursing make the weight hard to come off? I heard that once... that's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

Oh honey, if there were a magic fix we wouldn't be having this discussion, (we, being like, the 400 million women in America dealing with the same thing.)

I've worked harder to lose the weight with number 3 than I did with 1 and 2 combined.

And I've still got 10-15 lbs to go. And the baby is almost 2!

I think the magic fix is to always keep trying and LOVE YOURSELF REGARDLESS. Easier said than done, I know.

I gained 40 this time around, and at 2 weeks postpartum had lost 20 lbs. Now at three months, I still weigh the exact same thing :-( After my last couple kids, nursing was like a wonder drug that made the weight just slide off (while I was eating more than I ever had before I got down to LESS than I weighed when I got married . . . I loved nursing!) This time it just isn't going anywhere. Which seems unfair, 'cause my baby is HUGE and I should at least lose a pound for every pound he gains, right?! :-)

I always have several pounds that I think might be around permanently. . . until that baby turns one year old and nursing tapers off. THEN and only then those last few pounds leave my body. Though i am still pretty squishy. :)

Please let me know if you discover that ancient chant. Because I'm getting a little desperate.

I second the nursing theory. Other weight loss inhibitors include: long term stress, sleep deprivation, and insufficient water intake, and being older than 18. =P

You are doing AWESOME, you really are!

I bought a copy of "Body For Life" on ebay for $3.00. And I love it. Because for the first time I actually felt like I was doing the right things for my body. He would say you should do cardio one day and weight training the next. That was definitely the best 3 bucks I ever spent.

I am certainly not a weight loss pro. I mean, have you seen me? Yes, yes you have. BUT, a friend of mine (two actually) lost a bunch of weight this summer and got really svelte. This is post 4 kids. Eee gads. The way she did it? Working out REALLY hard. Lots of sweat. And varying her work out. Also, not so much eating less food but being very particular about what she was eating and how much. Finally, not eating after 8 pm. Worked for her...I'm not at the point of trying it yet. This extra fluff is my food storage plan....

so my "baby" will be 16 in two weeks....the extra weight I have is from late night snacking and not enought daytime moving! A friend at church all of a sudden looked fantastic - here's where she sent me (free 1 week) worked like a charm lost 3 lbs in 7 days! Good luck!!! http://www.kristiapproved.com/

I would try to add more variety to your exercise: rowing, stairs, jump rope, hills, elastic bands or weight balls. Also, you can alternate more hard/soft exercise (12 minutes hard, 20 minutes rest) as that's proven to be a better use of your time. Or, try reducing how much meat you eat in a week and not combining it with dairy. I'm a Christian, but I live in Israel right now, and being forced to keep kosher outside my home (i.e. no butter on my chicken) has allowed me to lose about 15 lbs the last 12 months while also being in the best cardio health of my life.

Ok, may not actually work. And if it DOES work, it's probably just water weight that it takes off, but a workout instructor guy told us about putting on Albolene (sp?) before a workout. Google it. I did once and apparently it's big in the workout/exercise world.

Weight lifting- building lean muscle which then burns more calories 24/7.

I hear from lots of sources that it works- I know at least one person who was doing a lot of cardio- finally added 30 day Shred and it made a big difference for her-

Jillian Michaels DVDs. Whoa. Especially the Boost Your Metabolism one, or 30-day shred. Now, how do you stay so motivated??

I say...give it another 80 days! You have a great routine going...and you've inspired me. I seem to only be able to keep things up for two weeks and fall off the wagon again! :)

I second (or third-fourth-or-fifth...) Weight (strenth) training. I was in the best cardio-shape of my life and had lost about 10 lbs when I started doing yoga regularly. It totally changed my shape and inches just disappeared. I also found it VERY relaxing. If you do a strength-training workout on the days you aren't running you probably won't have to change your diet at all. The new muscle will burn more calories 24/7, just like a previous poster said.

You look fantastic as you are - kudos for the work you've put in so far!!!

PS- warning on the Jillian Michaels DVD's- they are great- but you might want to mute the talking part as her language isn't always very refined- I am currently using the 30 day Shred by the way- and after a week- can feel a difference- I will have to let you know how it goes

I'm having my very own little pity party about this very thing right now. If I don't start seeing some progress -- any kind! -- I may just go back to sleeping later in the morning, because if my body responds in exactly the same manner to both exercise and sleep, well, then I choose sleep.

Here's my regimen -- starting this week:

Monday -- 3-4 mile run
Tuesday -- swim, but I just started that today and so I'll ramp it up slowly. I haven't been in a pool to do anything but chase children in, like, 14 years.
Wednesday -- spin class
Thursday -- Pilates
Friday -- longer run

And, seriously, I'm supposed to take care of five other people in there, too. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it. Because I should feel better. And I don't. I just feel fat.

um, isn't your baby like a month old? ok, i know nbc is older, but seriously girl, you could probably treat yourself to some slack.

and yes, yes...i can use this lecture too.

Sorry, but I have lost 17 lbs in two months by eating less and moving more. I have no magic formula.

Well, I've learned that it's important to include weight-lifting in your routine. So the cardio and aerobics are awesome (and SO beneficial), but the weight lifting helps it be more effective. More muscle = higher metabolism = more fat lost.
Still, with all the working out that I do, you amaze me. My endurance is so flimsy compared to your four miles running and ten miles biking! Way to go! And to lose 48 lbs, wow. You really should be so proud of yourself! :)

This lady, Natasha Turner, is a natropathic doctor (from Toronto too....). Her theory is that if hormones are out of whack then the pounds start to come on. Plus, she says that most weight gain is from stress hormone. It is one of those that just makes sense to me. I was able to find her book at the library, so check it out there first. I am still working on my 7 year old baby fat! ha ha! Keep up the great work!
