So I finally figured out why I'm not famous

It's because I don't take amazing photos of, like, doorknobs. And food. And my homemade throw pillow, or vintage frame that I had to strip, restain and modpodge.

Also, because I don't really know what modpodge is.

Also, I don't wear superamazingmagazine outfits. (That I usually think look ridiculous in realeveryday life, to be honest.)

The truth:

I take pictures of my kids. And sometimes trees. They are merely marginally-better-than-average photos.

I cook. But pictures of the food do not look delicious.

I occasionally craft. But pictures of said crafts look really dumb.

I wear marginally-better-than-average clothes. I never take pictures of them.

So - it all comes down to photos, basically.

Now please understand - I am not even remotely bitter about my non-famous status. I am one of the thousands of people who Follow these photographic (and photogenic) ladies who make dented salt shakers look amazing on film.

It is merely amusing to me that every time I see a link to a blogger whose "follower" gadget is in the thousands, it's never because of how well they write. It's because of the pictures. (I can think of two exceptions - one is super snarky and one is super sweet AND snarky.)

Yes - a lot of these picture-taking-wonders CAN write as well. But would they be well-known based on words alone? I read so many blogs that I feel SHOULD be famous - and they're not. Probably because there aren't any pictures of dented salt shakers or 18th century doorknobs.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the fact that I don't have a three column layout is working against me, too.

I'm going to say this is my best Relief Society voice ever: "You're famous to me."

Plus, I don't read those other ones. I like you better.

I think you are moderately well known =) I think you are an excellent writer. I think that you are hilarious. I think you are cute.
The end.

I am also not famous. In fact, I hosted a giveaway on my book blog that recently ended that was up for 10 days and only ONE person entered. I was sad. The person who won the giveaway was really excited, though, so it ended up being alright. We can be unfamous (or should that be infamous) together.

I'm glad you don't have a 3-column layout. I like what you have to say even more than I like your pictures. I LOVE what you have to say.

I do think you're right about photog-blogs. People that have loads and loads of fantastic pictures seem to have loads of Followers.

I'm fed up with the overly snarky blogs that drop swear words here and there (especially the LDS ones).

I just learned what Modpodge is last month. It's kinda fun actually. But I don't really have time to play with it.

I mostly take pictures of my kids-- and occasionally toothpaste.

I cook and I bake and thus I do NOT take pictures of me. Because it shows. (read: porkchop girl) I also usually don't take pictures of the food I make because it doesn't look "Magazine appetizing," but at least it tastes it. How's that for some boastfulness?

I do on occasion take pictures of tutorial-type things like bread kits and cloth diapering whatnot. This is mostly so my few followers will have a visual about the thing I'm trying to teach them. Usually I err on the side of too little pictures when in reality a picture would help get the point across.

I love that you write well. And in the words of Steph @ Diapers and Divinity, "You're famous to me." I like that you are real.

Erin- I know how sad it is to do a giveaway and have only one person enter. *sniff*

I had a three column layout once. I had three people tell me it seemed too busy and distracting, so I got rid of it. Be like me and stick with two!

I'm with on the whole photo thing. I never take pictures. Mostly because my camera is broken and I have to hold the battery case closed in order to get the camera to even turn on... but even when I do take pictures, they aren't spectacular. I have no staging ability, and quite frankly, I don't have TIME to stage and capture my life with beautifully edited perfectly lighted photos. So I write, and I publish pictureless posts, or posts with average quality pictures. And I'm not famous either. But you read me, and that makes me happy.

(And I want one of those widdlytink family things you've got... I love it!)

There may be more people who read your blog than follow/comment. You know- those random blog stalkers? I'm one and I read your blog. Daily!

You're famous to me! I read your blog as soon as it pops up on my reader! I'm just a lurker who never comments on anything. :)

Also hate 3 columns. So busy. I bounce off of those blogs pretty quickly.

I don't like the three column format.

Oh I see that last comment at the top of my window...apparently I am not the only one.

I do like photos. I feel naked when I occasionally post without a photo.

You have an etsy sight. You beat me in the Mormon mom department. I would never in a million years post anything I have made for people to buy...oh, it's your mom's. O.k. that makes us both unfamous wannabe bloggers.

I'll read you if you read me. LOL

Who DOES like three column format?!
I really think only a small percentage of people comment even if they follow (think of Relief Society lessons and how few ladies talk? Well, nevermind, I have a good RS...).
I don't think I'd WANT thousands of followers. Hundreds? Sure. ;)

Maybe if I were super talented with a camera and had something fancier than my simple "point&shoot" I'd do more...but maybe not.

PS: I pretty much can't stand blogs that aren't well written, and no way will photos make up for it...you could say I'm guilted into following some family/friend ones...oh, shame on me. Don't tell.

I so get this. I feel the same way.
If you will come visit, I have an old house and we can take pictures of the old doorknobs (I have brass and crystal ones) and you can post them. You can have all the rights to them.
It's so much cooler to say "Look at these cool knobs in my cousin's early 20th century house." Than for me to post them and someone say, "Don't you need to update?"
